About

Kerala State Institute of Health and Family Welfare is the apex institute under the Kerala Health Services, conducting different types of trainings for various categories of Health Staff under different schemes-Plan Fund, NRHM & State Training programme.

• The institute started in 1967 as Family Planning Centre.
• During 1984-85 renamed as Health and Family Welfare Training Centre
• The centre has been upgraded as State Institute Of Health and Family Welfare during 2001

SIHFW has been granted Autonomy during 2004 (vide G.O (P) No.157/2004/H&FWD dated Thiruvananthapuram, 23rd July, 2004) and renamed as Kerala State Institute of Health and Family Welfare. It needs to be developed along the lines of National Institute of Health and Family welfare. Realising the great significance and importance of the said task, projects had been proposed under the European Commission Supported Sector Investment Programme in Kerala (ECSIP) and development of the institute was taken up to be completed in a phased manner.
